I’m not endorsing Michael Moore’s views, but I think his latest film, Slacker Uprising, has some truth to it: Most people my age don’t vote on Election Day, either because they feel it doesn’t matter, or because they find it they don’t know enough.

I’ve always been of the idea that if you don’t exercise your right to vote, you can’t exercise your right to complain later. If you vote for whoever ends up being in power, and you agree with what they’re doing, then that’s great. If you voted against them, at least you know you tried, and you know, there’s always next time (Being a Calgary Flames fan, I’ve had to use that phrase more often than I wish I did).

My point is, go out there and vote on Tuesday morning. I don’t care who you vote for, just go and do it. If you don’t vote because you feel your vote doesn’t count, then you’re proving yourself right, by making sure your vote is not included.

Election Day will be right after Thanksgiving. I think that a way of being thankful for living in a country and a time where you can vote, no matter your gender, race, or political views, is something to be very, very thankful for.

Come on guys, let’s do it.

I know that Facebook is not a scientific tool, but I looked for people who have Computer Engineering or Computer Science listed as their degree from school, to see what kinda jobs they had.

- Lots of people at Convergys.
- Lots of people doing random work (including an (and I quote) “assistant to the farm boy”)
- Some people doing computer related stuff
- Very few people doing high paying computer related stuff.
- No people listed as “Computer Scientist” or “Computer Engineer”.

Hmm…

Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

Now, out of the people that do have jobs that would appeal to me, there are:

- People with a rather extensive list of hobbies and passions.
- People who list quotes from wise people on their “favorite quotes” section, as opossed to “It’s like walking on sunshine! - that girl on the episode of Intervention”.
- A guy who works as the IT dude at a church.
- Guys (didn’t see any girls, as of yet) whose profile pictures include: a cute picture with their girlfriend/wife; a picture with their dog; a picture of them doing something interesting (ie: travelling, playing some instrument, or doing some other stuff that would be hard to do when you’re not sober).
- People whose goals and plans go farther than this weekend.

This led to the conclusion that:

- While education is important, some people have gone to school for years, and didn’t get anywhere. This is not to say that they are not happy with their current jobs, or that their purpose is not being fulfilled, or that others are better than them. This just means that they went to school for three to five years, and are doing a job that doesn’t require that type of education.
- Attitude and behavior seem to play a bigger part than most people give it credit for. Yes, technical skills are a great way to get your dream job, but if your boss or the person who is interviewing you looks up your profile and sees “Joe is ready to effin kill everyone at work” as your status, chances are they might not like them too much.

I guess this is just something to think about, as I’m looking to enhance my academic training.

Yesterday, while driving to the Blue Bombers game, I heard a noise coming from my car.

It wasn’t the weird knocking noise that I heard last time. No. I turned down the music and could hear this humming.

It was then that it hit me: It was the paid for hum that you hear when you know you’re not dragging a car payment behind your car. Guys, I tell you, it was awesome!

On other, not-so-awesome news, the Blue Bombers managed to waste a 17 point lead (31-14) going into the fourth quarter, and ended up losing 34-31. Le sigh. It was still a pretty good game, other than the constant wind that was a reminder of the winter that’s coming soon.

I haven’t been running for the past few days, for several dumb reasons: rain, the plague, lack of time (grr!) and a very messed up sleep pattern.
